The Weight of Evidence and Reason

The Weight of Evidence and Reason

In this article, I would like to address a message to the Christian people. With God’s help, I hope to open their eyes to a mistake they have been making for centuries. Due to their ignorance of Islam, they consider Muslims as their enemies.

Without realizing it, they are in absolute error because they have been led to believe that Muslims have a major problem with the Christian religion.

Here is what God says in the Holy Quran to His messenger Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) regarding “the People of the Book” (Christians and Jews) in Surah Al-Ankabut (The Spider), verse 46:

{And do not argue with the People of the Book except in the best manner—except those of them who commit injustice—and say, ‘We believe in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to you. Our God and your God is one, and to Him we submit".}[29:46]

In this verse, the Messenger is commanded to show the People of the Book, including Christians, in the kindest manner, that there is only one God for all of humanity and that we are all His creations.

The Almighty and Most Merciful God further instructs His messenger (PBUH) in Surah Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers), verses 1-6:

{Say, "O disbelievers,

I do not worship what you worship,

Nor are you worshipers of what I worship,

Nor will I be a worshiper of what you worship,

Nor will you be worshipers of what I worship.

For you is your religion, and for me is mine.” }[109:1-6]

With this clear surah, it is evident that each community has its own religion, and everyone is free to follow their beliefs. On the Day of Judgment, the Almighty and Most Merciful God will decide.

Regarding coercion, it is important to understand that Islam was never spread by force against people’s will, as some individuals or groups claim. If such actions were taken, they would be a violation of divine law because God states in Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow), verse 256:

{There is no compulsion in religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in false gods and believes in God has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And God is Hearing and Knowing.} [2:256]

“Only God has the power to benefit or harm, and no obedience is due to anyone if it involves disobedience to God.”

God also instructs His Messenger (PBUH) regarding forcing people to enter Islam in Surah Al-Ghashiyah (The Overwhelming), verses 21-24:

{So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

You are not over them a controller.

But whoever turns away and disbelieves,

Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.} [88:21-24]

Islam has never contradicted the divine religions that preceded it or the teachings of their prophets and messengers (Peace and blessings be upon them). On the contrary, in Islam, all of God’s prophets and messengers—Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and his twelve sons, Job, Jonah, Aaron, David, Solomon, Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary—are respected and honored just as Muhammad (PBUH), the final messenger of God.

Another proof that Islam was not spread by coercion can be found in God’s words to His Messenger (PBUH) and the Muslims during their existential struggle against the disbelievers, in Surah Al-Anfal (The Spoils of War), verses 60-62:

{And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know but whom Allah knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allah will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

But if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.

But if they intend to deceive you—then sufficient for you is Allah. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers.} [8:60-62]

“Muslims never attack people with whom they have a treaty without first openly and honestly renouncing the treaty. They never betray people, but once war is declared, all tactics and strategies are allowed. War is the art of deceiving the enemy.”

Muslims never inflict atrocities on their captives. In fact, God states in Surah Al-Insan (The Human), verses 8-9:

{And they give food, in spite of love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,

[They say], ‘We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We do not desire from you reward or thanks.’} [76:8-9]

This highlights the importance of orphans in the eyes of God. He mentions them several times in the Quran and encourages Muslims to take good care of them. In verse 8, God shows that under His guidance, Muslims give what they love most in food to the needy, orphans, and prisoners without expecting any thanks, doing it solely for God’s sake. Through this act, Muslims elevate the needy and the prisoner to the same level as the orphan.

We have all witnessed what happened in Gaza. Despite the destruction of the city, the first hostages released were seen smiling and in good health. Isn’t this further proof that Muslims respect and care for their captives, despite the atrocities they themselves have suffered?

To conclude, dear friends, I would like to emphasize that Islam has never been the enemy of Christians or anyone else. On the contrary, through the Holy Quran and His Messenger, God instructs Muslims to develop relationships of respect and friendship with those around them and to live in peace in their countries.

The Quran reflects the words of God, and in no verse will you find an incitement to war without cause—only in defense of Muslims and their loved ones. According to the teachings of the Quran, Muslims are closer to peace than to war.
